Darius Acuff Jr. finished with 37 points as the No. 3-seeded Arkansas Razorbacks defeated the No. 11 seed Oklahoma Sooners 82-79 in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals at Bridgestone Arena. Acuff shot 11 of 21 from the floor and added 5 assists and 5 rebounds in a clutch performance that kept Arkansas' NCAA Tournament seeding hopes alive and moved the team closer to potentially claiming a higher seed heading into March Madness.
Acuff scored the second-most points in an SEC Tournament game by an Arkansas player since the Razorbacks joined the league, with Todd Day holding the record with 39 points scored against Alabama on March 14, 1992. He hit a crucial 3-pointer with 2:27 remaining to give Arkansas a 76-69 lead, capped off the Razorbacks' fifth consecutive made field goal down the stretch. The freshman's poise and efficiency under pressure made the difference in a back-and-forth battle that came down to the final seconds.
For Oklahoma, the tournament run came to an end despite an impressive turnaround during the postseason. Point guard Nijel Pack led the Sooners with 19 points, scoring 16 of those in the first half, but Arkansas' defense limited his looks and forced low-percentage efforts in the second half. The Sooners played their way onto the March Madness bubble by winning eight of their past 10 games entering Friday, but a 1-9 start to conference play may hinder their ability to get into the Big Dance. With the loss, Oklahoma (19-15) will await its NCAA Tournament fate during the Selection Sunday Show at 5 p.m. Sunday on CBS.
