Liberty basketball is absolutely on fire right now. The CUSA-leading Liberty Flames (17-3, 9-0 CUSA) have garnered national attention, with the team receiving one vote in the USA Today Sports Men's Basketball Coaches Poll, and honestly, it's easy to see why. This squad is playing some of the best basketball in the country, and they're just getting started in conference play.
The Flames forced 16 turnovers and received a game-high 25 points from Brett Decker Jr. to pick up their 11th consecutive win overall. The sophomore guard continues to be the most consistent scorer on the floor. Decker Jr. ranks No. 2 nationally in three-point percentage (50.0), No. 3 in total three-pointers (73) and No. 5 in threes per game (3.65). That's elite-level shooting from deep, and he's the only Liberty player to score in double figures in all 20 games this season so far.
Liberty's 9-0 league start is the best start to a conference season in program history. Think about that for a second. In the entire history of Liberty basketball, they've never started a conference season this hot. The Flames are in the midst of an 11-game winning streak, tied for the third longest in school history, and have not lost since Dec. 10. Liberty's 11 straight wins is currently the sixth-longest streak in the nation. They're also one of only 11 teams in the entire country that hasn't lost a conference game yet. Now they're headed to Middle Tennessee on Thursday night to keep the magic going, and honestly, this team looks like it could make some serious noise come tournament time. If Decker Jr. and company keep shooting like this, don't be shocked to see Liberty dancing in March.
