Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Mary Cosby's only son Robert Cosby Jr. died February 23, police confirmed. He was 23.
The Salt Lake City Police Department said officers responded to a "possible overdose" on February 23, and on the scene, they found Robert Cosby Jr. dead. The investigation remains open as the medical examiner works to determine a cause of death. Season 7 of RHOSLC was in pre-preproduction and wasn't shooting at the time of Robert's death, though filming was supposed to start this week but has been postponed due to the tragedy.
Mary told TMZ in a statement, "Our beloved son Robert Jr. has been called home to the Lord. Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in God's promise and in knowing he is finally at peace. We are grateful for your prayers and trust in the Lord to carry us through this time of sorrow." The Cosby family also shared that "Robert Jr.'s warm spirit, humor and kind heart will be missed."
Recent seasons of RHOSLC have put a spotlight on Robert Cosby Jr.'s struggles with mental health and substance abuse issues. In season five of the show, she spoke about growing concerns over her adult son's behavior until eventually learning that he had a drug addiction. Robert Jr. was released from jail on February 3, 2026, after serving two months, and just weeks before his death, Mary had posted an optimistic Instagram tribute celebrating his release and his efforts toward sobriety. He was released from jail earlier this month after he pleaded guilty in December to assault and violating a protective order.
Real Housewives executive producer Andy Cohen posted, "Devastatingly sad news out of SLC. This is every parent's worst nightmare. My heart is broken for Mary, and I am sending all my love to her and Robert Sr." The entertainment community and fellow cast members have shared their condolences during this deeply difficult time.
