The FBI has released surveillance photos and videos of a potential suspect in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie. According to NBC News, the images show a masked, armed individual appearing to tamper with the camera at Guthrie's front door on the morning of her disappearance on January 31. The person is seen wearing gloves, a mask, sneakers, and a backpack. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the potential subject is armed, with at least one video showing a holstered gun.
Nancy Guthrie was dropped off at her Catalina Foothills home outside Tucson, Arizona on January 31 and was reported missing around noon on February 1 after she failed to show up at church. Authorities have described the case as a possible kidnapping or abduction, and there have been reports of ransom notes. Immediately after the images were released Tuesday, her daughter Savannah posted on Instagram: "We believe she is still alive. Bring her home." She urged anyone with information to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or the Pima County Sheriff's Department at 520-351-4900.
The sheriff's department confirmed that blood found on the porch outside Guthrie's house tested positive for her DNA, adding urgency to the search. The investigation is now in its tenth day, with multiple ransom deadlines reportedly having passed. Law enforcement continues to canvas neighborhoods and search for leads. The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to Nancy Guthrie's safe recovery or the arrest of those responsible. Sheriff Chris Nanos previously described Guthrie as "sharp as a tack" mentally, though she has limited mobility and requires daily medication for her health and safety.
