The Los Angeles Rams and Kansas City Chiefs pulled off one of the offseason's biggest trades on Wednesday. The Chiefs agreed to trade All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie to the Rams for four draft picks, including the 29th pick in the first round of the 2026 NFL draft, along with 2026 fifth- and sixth-round picks and a 2027 third-round pick.
The Rams had a clear need at cornerback heading into free agency. Among all contenders in 2026, the biggest weakness among them was probably the Rams' cornerbacks, and they filled it with a big trade. Rams general manager Les Snead said the goal is to start figuring out if there's an All-Pro that you could add—and they found exactly what they were looking for in McDuffie.
McDuffie is a very good cornerback who is just 25 years old, was a first-team All-Pro in 2023 and second team in 2024. There's a California connection too—McDuffie is a Southern California native who graduated from Los Angeles County powerhouse St. John Bosco, so he's heading home.
The move gives Kansas City nine selections in the 2026 NFL Draft, which gives them serious ammunition to rebuild their roster through the draft. This marks the second time that Chiefs GM Brett Veach has had two first-round picks in a single draft class, with the last time being the 2022 NFL season following the Tyreek Hill trade. The trade becomes official when the new league year opens next week, but for now, both teams have locked in the blockbuster deal.
